When you are out driving, you will encounter a number of dips and bumps in the road. You would have a very unpleasant driving experience if you didn't have a good suspension system in your vehicle. Your car's suspension system consists of a number of components including shocks, struts, springs, bushings, ball joints and tie rods.

The suspension components that most often need attention are the shocks and struts. On most vehicles, the shocks will need to be replaced at about the 50,000-mile mark. If you notice that one of your shocks is leaking or performing poorly, you should get replacement shocks. Both shocks on an axle should be replaced at the same time.

When you take your car in for regular service, the suspension should be checked for any leaks or problems. If you notice that your car is bouncing more than usual over a bump, you should have the suspension checked.
